Everyone Agrees We Need More Refugee Solidarity But Nobody Wants To Give It

[...] The UNHCR report notes that, largely because of the border and travel restrictions "only 34,400 refugees were resettled to third countries in 2020, two-thirds of them assisted by UNHCR. This compares to 107,800 the year before and marks a dramatic 69 per cent decline."
This can't all, or even mostly, be blamed on the pandemic. Resettlement places have been declining since 2016, according to Olivia Sundberg Diez, migration policy analyst at the European Policy Centre. Sundberg Diez describes a "solidarity deficit" in resettling refugees. [...]
