Afaf Rahim holds a PhD in Economics from Wageningen University, and has previously worked as a Research Coordinator at the Tufts University in Boston, assistant professor at the Centre of Near and Middle Eastern Studies of the Marburg University and as post-doctoral researcher at the Pretoria University.

Her research is multidisciplinary in scope, spanning several fields of study, from agriculture and natural resource management, to poverty and social impact analysis. As part of MEDAM, Afaf applied her expertise in empirical economic research to the study of migrants' labor market and social integration.
