The EU’s response to refugee flows from Ukraine
Shortly after the Justice and Home Affairs Council Meeting on 3 March, this European Policy Centre (EPC) event took stock of the EU’s response to the possible millions of refugees coming from Ukraine.
What are the opportunities and challenges related to activating the Temporary Protection Directive? Is the EU’s general response to the situation at its borders enough? And what more can be done to address both the immediate and long-term needs of refugees? Our discussion also looked at the impact of the current situation on broader debates regarding intra-EU solidarity in the area of asylum, and at the EU’s efforts in providing humanitarian aid to address the plight of internally displaced persons in Ukraine.
