Global Solutions Summit 2021
The Global Solutions Summit—the World Policy Forum—is an international conference aimed at addressing key policy challenges facing the Group of Twenty (G20).

Distinguished experts from think tanks, research organizations, governance, business, and civil society come together each year in the middle of every G20 Presidency to work on concrete policy solutions.
On the occasion of the publication of our fifth MEDAM Assessment Report on Asylum and Migration Policies in Europe “EU-Turkey: Toward sustainable cooperation in migration management and refugee protection”, we will discuss migration management, refugee protection, lessons from the EU-Turkey Statement, key research insights, as well as ways forward.
Double session addressing migration cooperation with countries of origin and transit at the Global Solutions Summit:
Friday, 28 May 2021; 15:45–16:45 CEST
The New Pact: Managing migration jointly with countries of origin and transit
Interview with EU Commission Vice-President Margaritis Schinas by New York Times Brussels correspondent Matina Stevis-Gridneff, followed by Q & A.
EU-Turkey cooperation on migration: Toward a sustainable and effective partnership
Panel discussion of key research insights and policy implications with Martin Ruhs (Professor and Deputy Director of the Migration Policy Centre, EUI), Angeliki Dimitriadi (Senior Research Fellow and Head of the Migration Programme, ELIAMEP) and Asli Aydıntaşbaş (Senior Policy Fellow, ECFR).
Five years after the EU-Turkey Statement, the EU and Turkey are now negotiating their future migration cooperation in line with the European Commission’s New Pact on Migration and Asylum. To make such cooperation more effective, diverse stakeholders' interests as well as voters’ policy preferences in the EU and in Turkey need to be taken into account. Research findings from the 2021 MEDAM Assessment Report provide valuable insights into how the EU-Turkey partnership can be made sustainable and possibly become a model for cooperation with other countries of origin and transit.
